My Brain is Fried Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue 392

I’m trying to convince Laurel to stop watching the news all the time. Though I must admit that I glance at the blaring TV from time to time and I’d be lying if I said I don’t look at social media and news reports on my devices during the day. There you have it.

It’s mid-July already and the summer is flying by. I’m busier than usual, especially during this pandemic, (I’m not complaining), and I’ve been social distancing while improving my outdoor pickleball game, daily. But I have to admit that there are times that I get tired while feeling burned out as the chaos is ramping up and swirling around me.

Consequently, what I am sure is adding to this fried brain feeling are the facts that I can’t see my grandkids as often as I would like, socializing with friends and colleagues is nonexistent, delivering my live presentations and traveling the world are all on hold for now.

So, I decided to reach out to some of my friends, colleagues and clients and research this malady to see what others suggest to improve that brain fog. Here are the top 10 of their ideas and mine:

  1. Take short breaks throughout the day.
  2. Reduce caffeine intake and replace with water. I already drink a lot of water every day, but I also drink at least 6-8 cups of cappuccino. This, for me, is a challenge.
  3. Turn off and completely avoid distractions for a while. Mediate, or read a book or listen to some great music.
  4. Breath, breath, breath. My Apple watch is a good reminder of that as well as my finger pulse oximeter monitor that I recently purchased.
  5. Focus on doing just that one thing rather than attempting to accomplish your long to do list.
  6. Turn on XM radio, listen to something humorous and laugh.
  7. Do something different. Create a fun mini adventure.
  8. Invite someone to a stimulating conversation.
  9. Get a good night sleep, do so consistently and consider taking a short nap.
  10. Engage in a fun physical activity.

Guess what? I feel better already!

I know many of you may be feeling a little out of control and stressed with everything happening all around us. Follow these 10 steps and unfry your brain. I’d love to hear from you. Please share your suggestions on how you re-energize your brain, refocus your thoughts, and reinvigorate your thinking. Looking forward to hearing from you as soon as I get to checking my email, phone, social media, Instagram and the latest from the news…
