How Impactful is Your Web Copy? Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue 319

Ever wonder what are the components of effective web copy? This is one of the challenges many of my clients face and one of the questions I am asked quite often. Five years ago, when writing the article “How Effective Is Your Web Copy?” I described the framework and have added one more component:

  1. Case study format – Start with the challenge, then the solution and then the results.
  2. Powerful titles – Increase interest and grab immediate attention.
  3. Examples – Help substantiate and further articulate your points.
  4. Hyperlinks – Used to further engage the reader and build interest.
  5. Testimonials – Add credibility and social proof.
  6. Visuals – Conserve on words and make your points visually attractive and memorable.
  7. Bullet points – Make your points practical and actionable.
  8. Less is more – Say what you need to say in as few words as possible.
  9. Provocative – Make them think differently or discover a brand-new way so they get to say: “I never thought of it this way!”
  10. Mobilize to action – Stop inertia and force them to take the next big step.

As my dear colleague from South Africa, Rurik McKaiser, The Phoenix Group, said: “I just find it amazing how the right messages just come to me at the right time from the awesome Chad Barr!”

Use this framework to create your next message and see your web copy come to life and achieve greater success.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get going and create your next masterpiece.
