What’s Holding You Back? Strategies to Thrive and Achieve Greatness Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue 534

Do you find yourself struggling to deliver on your promises, get your work done, or create compelling content and publish your ideas? If so, you are not alone. Despite their expertise and passion, I find that many entrepreneurs and small business owners face similar challenges.

The question I have is: What’s holding you back? And more importantly, how can you overcome it?

First, let’s look at some of the reasons that may be holding you back:

  • The imposter syndrome: You don’t believe you are good enough.
  • Effectively leveraging technology: You are not taking advantage of technology and other systems to streamline your workflow and expand your business.
  • Lack of focus: You may be trying to handle too many things at once or be easily distracted by the shiny objects.
  • Fear of success: You may be sabotaging your own progress because you are afraid of what might happen if you achieve your goals. This fear may exist because of additional responsibilities, public criticism and being judged, fear of the unknown, loss of control
  • Perfectionism: You may feel that whatever you are working on is not yet good enough, which often leads to paralysis, which brings frustration and missed opportunities. As Voltaire said: “Prefect is the enemy of good.”
  • Lack of support: You may be relying solely on yourself rather than surrounding yourself with a powerful network of colleagues, mentors, advisors, and experts who can help properly advise you and enable you to quickly reach your goals.
  • Lack of accountability: Not having someone to hold you accountable for your actions, will slow down or completely eliminate your progress towards your goals and commitments. As Stephen Covey said: “Accountability breeds response-ability”

To overcome these challenges that may be holding you back, I suggest you consider evaluating your mindset, skills and habits. Here are some of my suggestions for thriving despite these challenges:

  • Develop your growth mindset: Cultivate the belief that you have the talent, skills and what it takes to help and impact others. Look at challenges as opportunities.
  • Build your genius network: surround yourself with the kind of people who would inspire, motivate and challenge you to be your best. Also, study the habits, mindset and strategies of successful entrepreneurs and thought leaders.
  • Learn from failure and success: Ask yourself what you can do differently or more of to achieve greater success. Also evaluate what you should stop doing.
  • Paint success: Create the strategies for your company, which will help establish the roadmap that outlines how you will achieve your business objectives. Not having your strategies defined, will make it challenging to make decisions, prioritize tasks and allocated the proper resources.
  • Focus on the client: Develop amazing products and services while providing exceptional service to your clients to exceed their expectations.
  • Invest in technology: There are various aspects of technology that may be a profound help for your business growth. Some examples are: your web presence, marketing initiatives, artificial intelligence, social media platforms, search engine optimization, email marketing, content marketing, and online advertising.
  • Take massive action: Break down your goals into smaller and manageable action steps and then take massive action, one at a time, towards accomplishing each step. Reward yourself and celebrate your accomplishments.

We are all capable of creating and achieving greater things while making a difference in the lives of our clients. As nelson Mandela said in his 2001 speech: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Let’s eradicate the things that are holding us back and take the next step to make it happen and achieve greatness.
