One Zoom At a Time Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue 401

I was chatting with a client earlier and reflecting on the many zoom calls we are involved in daily. Since she did not turn on the video right away I joked and asked if she is still working with her pajamas on. She turned on the video and shared with me that during one of her recent business zoom call meetings she realized she was still wearing her robe while her video was on! So, her new habit is to start her zoom calls with the video being turned off.

How many zoom calls have you participated in during the last 6 months of the pandemic? For me, keeping informed through lectures, classes and webinars, while conducting many such experiences, these meetings are permanently embedded in my vision with participants separated by small squares, with miniature faces, pinned videos and the constant mute and unmute that is requisite for a successful meeting.

As more and more people have settled into working remotely while leveraging online technologies, new challenges regarding childcare, home schooling, taking care of personal business, life challenges and working from home, have turned working in pajamas, which was fun at first, to a daily adventure of juggling and shifting roles, priorities and responsibilities.

One of the key challenges I believe we all face is how can we keep our video and business encounters fresh and exciting. Here are some of my suggestions:

  1. Take breaks between your meetings, clear your head with some physical activity, healthy nourishment, listening to music or meditation.
  2. Reach out to friends, colleagues, partners and clients that are able to positively impact your energy, mental stimulation and your enthusiasm.
  3. Find ways to help others.
  4. Conduct some of your meetings via phone and a headset while walking throughout the house or outdoors.
  5. Spend some time with your family.
  6. Take a breath of fresh air.
  7. Bring the mindset of joy and providing value with great enthusiasm into each of your meetings. It is contagious.

These are difficult times in which we all face similar challenges and concerns. Together we will get through this, one zoom at a time.
