One Way to Get to Carnegie Hall Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue 465

Thanks to Facebook live I was able to watch my grandchildren’s winter music recital this week. We have a pianist and a guitarist, (so far), and they both performed with great musicality and a bit of trepidation. Laurel and I, both being musicians, remember the many opportunities we had to perform for the community when we were kids too. The daily practice, sometimes with the urging of parents, for 3 minutes of performing on stage seemed overwhelming when I was young, but I know that this “practice makes perfect” phrase is really about.

As with any skill, talent, or business acumen, honing our craft can only happen with constant work and daily practicing teaches the discipline necessary for improvement in any area of life. Some of it is trial and error work, other times, it’s slow and steady, piece by piece, forward movement.

No matter how you do it, success can only be achieved through hard work, consistent practice, and lifelong learning. Everyone knows there’s only one way to get to Carnegie Hall! Practice!
