Creating Your Impact Statement Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue 461

A while back I attended a session where the presenter discussed how to create your 30 second elevator pitch. A disclaimer: I am not a fan of any kind of a pitch and especially one that may take 30 seconds in an elevator!

I was curious what breakthrough ideas may be revealed that day. To my astonishment, when the time came for her to present the pitch, she pulled out a piece of paper from her briefcase and read it word for word. I was surprised that she couldn’t remember her short pitch and needed to have it written down in order to recite it.

One of the first steps I help my clients with is defining what they do in one powerful and succinct clarifying statement. Some may refer to it as the value statement or the transformation statement. I simply call it your power or impact statement.

The elements of the impact statement are:

  • Who do you help?
  • What do you do?
  • How are they better off?

So, when someone asks me what I do, here is my response in 10 seconds or less:

Shorter version:
Helping entrepreneurs and organizations create their million-dollar web presence and global digital empires® to transform their success.

Longer version:
Helping entrepreneurs and organizations create their million-dollar web presence and global digital empires® to strengthen their thought leadership, global reach, and transform their success.

Once you create your impact statement, I suggest you place it on your site so visitors can easily see it, read it and get what you do in 10 seconds or less.

What is your impact statement?
