Move The World Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue No. 19

This week’s reflection point: For quite some time I have been suggesting that remarkable, provocative content is the critical aspect of one’s thought leadership. And to clarify, by content I mean, articles, position papers, audio books, booklets, eBooks, books, videos, audio recordings, teleseminars, webinars, workshops and so on. Content is the manifestation of your knowledge, experiences, track record of success, advice and wisdom, in a variety of offerings.

To achieve and increase success, the other dimension is the concept of leveraging the content. Leverage, is all about getting your audience to discover your content, consume or use it to improve their lives and businesses, to share it with others and request more of it.

I have created the visual below to further illustrate my point. If you are:

  • Low on content and low on leverage, you may be perceived as an empty suit.
  • Low on content and high on leverage, you may be perceived as an Impostor.
  • High on content and low on leverage, you may actually be the best-kept secret out there.
  • High on content and high on leverage, you are a thought leader or on your way to become one.

It was Archimedes who in 230 BC said: “Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand, and I will move the world.” Allow me to suggest that your remarkable content, leveraged well, can also move the world.

This week’s tip: If content is the king, provocative content is the ace. Leverage it well and you’ve got the winning hand.
