How Prepared Are You? Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue No. 60

Raising the Barr is a weekly memo, which is always pithy, powerful and succinct. It focuses on innovative ideas by maximizing your life and business while leveraging strategy, content, technology and the web, to help you transform the success.

This week’s reflection point: While attending Alan Weiss’s thought leadership symposium several months ago and hearing Dan Pink’s presentation, I was astounded by Dan’s ability to memorize key elements of each of the 20 global consultants in attendance. He memorized our full name, the city in which our business is located and the focus of our business.

When I asked him how he did it, he humbly acknowledged that it is an integral part of his business conduct to get to better know each of the attendees. It was obvious that he was well prepared and thoroughly did his homework.

If you look at some of the most noticeable global successes, whether the athletes competing at the winter Olympic games, NBA players, or the top speakers and CEOs, it is clear that they surround themselves with the best coaches which help them be prepared and at the top of their game.

So whether you are showing up for your sales meeting with a new client, getting on a stage to deliver your presentation, delivering your advice and solutions for your clients, you need to ask yourself what are you doing to raise the bar and how prepared are you?

This week’s tip: Isolate one new action you will take immediately to raise the bar and be better prepared.
