Pithy and Valuable Raising the Barr Weekly Memo: Issue No. 76

This week’s reflection point: There is a lot of noise and rambling out there that I encounter way too many times when reviewing content and hearing presentations that seem to go on endlessly. These manifest themselves as: Irrelevant stories, lengthy introductions, confusing and boring context, poor conclusions, or pitiful anecdotes.

Our clients are all busy people handling many conflicting priorities. The keys to powerful messages that get noticed are:

  • Get to the essence of your message at the beginning.
  • Load your content with high value.
  • Provoke them to think.
  • Present with gusto.
  • Avoid rehashing your points over and over.
  • Keep your messages short.
  • Mobilize them to take action.

This week’s tip: Can you create your next piece of content or presentation using the ideas above and in half the words you were intending to use?
